Buying a Used Car That’s Good as New

If you’re wallet says your buying a used car but you really had your heart set on a new car, especially a particular brand, you can compromise. Check with dealers of the new car you’re dreaming about and see if they have any newer second hand models available that just came off a lease. A one or two year old version of the car you really want will still look new but they will cost considerably less. Check the new car dealers websites to see if they offer used models so you can get an idea of what prices to expect.

Unfortunately, in the UK new cars cost more than they do in Europe and they depreciate in value faster. Bad for new car buyers, but ideal for you. Getting used cars from the same dealer that sold the car new has other advantages as well. The dealer is more likely to offer a guarantee on a car whose history they know, and their safety check is likely to be more thorough as their technicians are very familiar with the model.

Consider the ownership costs with used cars just as you would with a new car. A used car isn’t likely to be as efficient as a new car unless unless you can find a clean second hand diesel car. Diesel cars, especially newer models tend to be more eco-friendly and they will save you money in fuel costs over the long run, especially if you do a lot of driving.

Since you can search for used cars online, finding the exact make and model of the car you really want is almost as easy to find used as it is new. Stick with shopping at dealers if you’re looking for a newer used vehicle. While there are legitimate reasons for private used car sales, few people sell a one or two year old car themselves unless there is a very good reason they want to unload the car.
