Lithium ion Batteries to Power Electric Cars

Projects for lithium ion batteries for electric cars.

In Germany, manufacturers work together for the development of electric batteries and Opel aims to offer for rent, so it is possible cheaper electric cars. New marketing ideas will allow to speed the shift to less polluting vehicles to meet the goals in the time of European administration.

Pollution abatement.

By 2012 CO2 emissions have to decrease substantially. German brands working together can develop lithium-ion battery technology of the type used in cell phones.

It is a way to launch into producing electric cars or hybrids that can be plugged in at home for recharging. The lithium ion batteries to be more compact can handle more cargo, note that size and weight of batteries are the most important factors to make electric cars practical.

Another problem to overcome is the short battery life and the potential to cause fires if they are subjected to heavy workload.

Technicians have joined Daimler, BMW, Volkswagen, Audi, Porsche, Opel and Ford to investigate. Are not easy to reach by 2012 to fulfill the government’s goals.

Leasing the batteries.

It is necessary that the earlier may have vehicles that emit no pollutants and those are just electric cars and plug-in hybrid cars. Thus Opel launched the idea of leasing the hybrid battery. Opel and GM is hoping to implement the system in the next generation Astra.

With a payment period, the owner of the vehicle can make the batteries and they will remain under constant security. A similar idea was reported at the last Tokyo Motor Show by the President of Nissan because the company is working on a draft of a new electric car. Lithium ion batteries can facilitate this development.

It also returns “Think”, Norwegian manufacturer, with the concept created in 1991 which went through four hands, including those of Ford from 1999 to 2002. Now the owner turns to Porsche and Robert Bosch for electronics of this vehicle.
