The arrival of the third generation of the Porsche Boxster


Today we have the first official pictures and information. Will be at the Geneva Motor Show in March, when performing his “coming-out” and reveal all the details, and soon after, on April 14, will start sales in the Spanish dealers. Initially the classic versions will Boxster (€ 52,879) and Boxster S (€ 67,135). As a brand that is elitist, does not present a low price, it is still slightly more expensive than its rivals, Audi TT, BMW Z4 and Mercedes SLK, but the basic version of this third generation is 516 euros cheaper than the second generation revised in 2009.

Without knowing all the data on weights, measures, etc., Porsche anticipates that this third generation has a chassis and a completely new body. The body is lighter and the chassis has a longer wheelbase and greater track width. So, mid-engine roadster soft top and improves its dynamic behavior, which also contributes to the electromechanical steering system already seen in the new Porsche 911.

Aesthetically no radical changes to the naked eye, but did observe contemplating to detail the multitudinous changes. It has a short overhangs, a windshield moved forward, a flat silhouette and a more prominent edges, in general, more athletic and muscular. The electric hood is brand new and now has a compartment where it is collected. Inside what changes most is the center console in the style begun with the Panamera and followed by 911. There is much more data, but Porsche says the space in the two places is more than its predecessor.

As regards mechanical, both versions as is tradition to draw six-cylinder boxer engine, and now comes with start-stop system Start & Stop. The basic low 0.2 liters displacement to 2.7 liters, but with new injection systems and energy recovery increases the power of 10 hp, to 265 hp. Is standard six-speed manual, but optionally can take the PDK, with which it gets fantastic fuel consumption and performance figures: 7.7 l/100 km (-1.2 l/100 km) and 5.7 seconds 0 to 100 km / h (one tenth faster).
Porsche Boxster

The most powerful version now called Boxster S and in this case it keeps the engine, 3.4 liters, but with a higher power 5 hp, 315 hp. Also achieves its best figures associated with the PDK, which for the issue of emissions and taxes in Spain in this version comes almost free (€ 67,640, only 505 euros more than the manual). The new Boxster S PDK only spends 8 l/100 km (-1.2 l/100 km) and is capable of accelerating from standstill to 100 km / h in 5 seconds (two tenths better than the last).

Finally, as Porsche now offers options in the new Boxster Sport Chrono Package with dynamic transmission system. Also new in this model, the Porsche Torque Vectoring (PTV) with a mechanical limited slip differential for the rear axle. In short, a dream roadster in its third generation that will substantially improve. It’s only three months for its arrival, and, of course, we can not wait to try and convey to their feelings.
